From PhD to book
I am turning my doctoral research, Food waste management based on the principles of circular economy (University of Geneva, 2022), into a book. It is in progress, and I would love to tell you when it is ready.
Why food loss and waste needs a systemic answer

My PhD examined food loss and waste through the lens of the waste hierarchy and the circular economy, with a focus on the canton of Geneva. It argues that efficient FLW management has to be holistic and systemic, built on a harmonised definition of food loss and waste, reliable and comparable data, a consistent measurement methodology, and sound institutions at every level.
Clearer definitions
A critical review of existing FLW terminology, and why current definitions are not yet a sufficient basis for effective management.
Better measurement
A review of FLW measurement methods and indicators from statistical, economic and nutritional angles, plus two new indicators to improve data comparability.
A Circular FLW Framework
An analysis of formal and informal institutions in Geneva, leading to a framework for a long-term strategy and action plan.
